"Yeah, that's the ticket..."

I went to the doctor's on Thursday. He's pretty sure it's Lyme's disease. I had to go for blood work yesterday morning. And, while he was at it, he had them check my sugar levels, my thyroid, a test for rheumatoid arthritis, and a couple of other things I can't even remember. He said the Lyme test can take about a week to come back. He also said there was nothing I can do in the mean time, except continue to pop extra strength tylenol like m & m 's.

We got a new kid in our class last week. What a duzy. He tells these unbelievable stories, and of course, the angels in the class egg him on so the stories just keep getting more and more grandiose. So far we've learned that he has three hired bodyguards (because in his line of work, that's what you need to do); he bought his girlfriend an 8 carat diamond ring at Kay Jewelers for $500, but then she cheated on him with his best friend; he's been accepted at Florida State University (he's only a junior who reads at a first grade level); he works from 4:00 till 10:00 everyday cutting down trees and makes $32./hour; he has his own house where he lives by himself. After one of his lengthy boasting sessions yesterday, my sweetie B yelled out, "Dude, you're a pathological liar. You know that's a disease, right?" His reply? "Yeah, my sister has it."

Emma, beat me to that bit of advice. He really should write them down--even if he reads at first grade level. Reading his own fantasy make improve his reading...or at least keep him out of trouble. Hey, has he been forced to play chess?

Yech on the Lyme disease! I hope you get to feel better soon!

Know that testing for Lyme disease is notoriously unreliable. The rates of both false positive and false negative readings are inordinately high. There is a great deal of information on line about the subject. Be absolutely certain your doctor has lots of experience in the area before ruling in or out both diagnosis and treatment. Many doctors, in fact most, do not, even here in Ct. where the bacteria is most common. Nor are many doctors up-to-date on the subject.

Ded, who has had Lyme at least three times.

on discovery medical channel, they do a show about people who get mysterious diseases that almos tkill them and are almost walys told they're not really sick, it's just in their head etc. then it turns out they're really sick and this is what was done for it etc. (it's really a hypocondriac's dream show)

anyway, i've seen 4 different episodes where the person had lymes disease and were told for years they they didn't have it and were just faking it and to stop wasing time of medical professionals, so I think ded's nose on with his advice.

i hope you feel better.
love,
jilly

Schell,, I usually am not a fan of anecdotal stories, but one of my pig friends in PA (Pennsburg) was diagnosed with Lyme. Her tests were always negative, but she got better with Doxycycline after all the symptoms pointed toward Lyme. Anyhow, if his level of suspicion is high,, go ahead and say,, let's treat it presumptively and go with response to treatment to confirm it. It isn't a perfect way to deal with it, but if you feel better,,,,,Unfortunately it seems that in some folks like my friend,, the symptoms can come and go and require additional therapy. Good Luck- this can be very frustrating for everyone to deal with. Do not hesitate to ask for referral to a physician in infectious disease or one who has a particular interest in this subject.

"one of my pig friends in PA (Pennsburg) was diagnosed with Lyme"

it would be appropriate if she had swine flu
